On
a simply gorgeous Saturday in January the highly anticipated Grand
Opening of the Museum of the North Beach occurred in splendid fashion.
An enthusiastic crowd of over 120 of patrons, volunteers, and local
dignitaries converged to witness the transition of a shared vision
into a vested reality. MBTS President Kelly Calhoun presided in
his official capacity and selected Officer Kathy Jaquet for the
official Ribbon Cutting ceremony, then used the master key to officially
open the doors to the public. Officer Lee Mariott unveiled the
new Museum of the North Beach sign while Director Jackie Davis
placed the Open Flag out to punctuate the event.
In
October of 2002, volunteer crews entered the old Hewitt's Cold
Storage building located on the east side of the Highway 109 and
just north of the Ocean Crest Resort Recreation Center in Moclips.
The building is owned by the resort with the forward portion being
donated for use by Moclips-By-The-Sea Historical Society to establish
the Museum of the North Beach.
The Grand Opening was January 18, 2003.
The
North Beach area includes Moclips, Pacific Beach, Aloha, Taholah,
Copalis Beach, Ocean City, Ocean Shores, and all points between.
With the Moclips 2005 Centennial arriving shortly, it is clear
that this area has had a rich and vital part in the history of
not only Grays Harbor County, but the State of Washington as well.
